History

    The department includes Undergraduate Section, Day Division Master’s Program in  Educational Psychology and Counseling, and Evening Division Master's Program in Counseling Education. The Day Division Master’s Program was revised by Elementary Education Department (now named Department of Education) in National Pingtung University (original National Pingtung University of Education).

    It was held in the 87th school year; in order to strengthen professional stills and training in all sorts of fields, it separated into two departments , “Educational Psychology” and “Counseling and Guidance” in the 93th school year. The Evening Division Master's Program in Counseling Education was revised in the 88th school year; it mainly enrolled in serve teachers in elementary schools; later, in order to promote learning effect, it separated into two departments, “Educational Psychology” and “Counseling and Guidance” in the 95th school year. The Four-year University Department was also revised by Elementary Education Department (now named Department of Education) in National Pingtung University (original National Pingtung University of Education). One of the programs transferred to be “Department of Educational Psychology and counseling,” which was held in the 90th school year.

     As the shrink in the market of elementary school teachers, it turned to be Teachers Preparation and Non-Teachers Preparation two ways in the 98th school year to encourage students to develop various lifetime careers. To reach the need and trend in society, the department has discussed for one year in the 100th school year to adjust the direction of the department from educational psychology to emphasis on development and learning in life and strengthen community counseling besides school counseling, according to human resource development, development of school affairs and goals, need for human resource in country, the result of external evaluation, and advices from internal and external based stakeholder.
